I am absolutely thrilled to be selected as 1 of 30 students nationally to attend the 2014 Google Computer Science Summer Institute (CSSI) Mountain View Session at the Googleplex in California!

CSSI is (as quoted from the CSSI applicant website):

  • three-week introduction to computer science for graduating high school seniors with a passion for technology — especially students from historically underrepresented groups in the field.
  • An intensive, interactive, hands-on program that seeks to inspire the tech leaders and innovators of tomorrow by supporting the study of computer science, software engineering and other closely related subjects.
  • All-expenses-paid. Google will provide housing, meals and transportation for invited students.

As a 2014 Google CSSIer, I am looking forward to spending three weeks at the Googleplex where I will learn coding, apply my coding skills, collaborate in teams with other CSSIers, and experience the Googler culture.

I applied to Google CSSI in March. The application was fairly simple: an updated resume, official high school transcript, SAT/ACT unofficial scores, and answers to two essay questions.
My advice: express passion in your application to highlight your personality.

In early April, I received an email notifying me that I had been selected to receive a phone interview (a good sign). I saw the interview as an opportunity to show my enthusiasm as an applicant and convey my eagerness to learn at CSSI. At the end of the month, the suspenseful application process climaxed when I received a call from Google! CSSI 2014 Here I Come!!

Sooo....I have decided to share my enthusiasm about CSSI through blogposts from Mountain View this summer (July 6th - July 26th).

As I write this post, I am one week until from my Googleplex adventure - I am eager for what's to come.
